Together with Messukeskus, an exhibition, convention and congress centre of international standard in Helsinki, Finland, we’ve created a mobile application for the Matka 2015 Nordic Travel Fair. This year the travel fair showcased over a 1000 exhibitors and countless programmes and events for its visitors and travel trade professionals.
The Matka 2015 -app makes it easy to browse and search through the fair program and activities and you can also browse and search for exhibitors. The user can plan the visit in advance by saving interesting programs and exhibitors into the app´s My Trip –section which works as a personal guide to the Travel Fair. My Trip will also create a calendar notice and tell you well in advance when programs you’re interested in are about to start.
The app includes a scalable map which makes it easy to find the nearest ATM or restroom in addition to showing where interesting exhibitors are located. The map also guides the user to all the restaurants and other important services.
Exhibitors can acquire a beacon for their stand to trigger different
types of content to mobile devices nearby. Content can be for example a
coupon or a lottery ticket and they can be scheduled to be triggered
only at specific time when visitor enters beacons area. For example the
application can trigger a notification when the user is nearby a stage
when an interesting event is about to start.
The mobile applications content is managed in a platform called Liki. Liki is the functionality by which the beacon information is managed and content for beacon events is triggered in mobile applications. It also enables scheduling the content triggering to occur only at a specific time for enter / exit events to the beacons region.
The mobile application is connected to the Liki –platform which gathers information about triggered beacon content, enabled coupons or lottery tickets and statistics about region entries per beacon (heat mapping).
In making this app we have used Estimote beacons.
The yearly Nordic Travel Fair is the largest of its type in Northern Europe. 2015 it gathered 70 000 visitors over four days. The fair centre was packed full with 900 exhibitors from 86 countries and proved once again why it is the highlight of the travel industry year here in the Nordic region.
The mobile app was downloaded by over 6 000 visitors and achieved first place in the Apple app store during the fair. These 6 000 downloads resulted in approx. 10 000 engagements through its notifications and alerts which resulted in a conversion rate of 60%. All in all the app and digital guide was well recieved by the users and was the first step of the fair centre in Helsinki, Messukeskus, into the mobile world of truly contextual communications with its visitors.
